Google Cloud Announces Gemini Agent, a Multi-Agent Tool That Lets Users Choose Different AI Models

Google Cloud、異なるAIモデルを選べるマルチエージェントツール「Gemini Agent」を発表

Google Cloud announced Gemini Agent, a multi-agent tool that runs in the cloud, on October 9, 2026 (local time). In addition to Google’s new Gemini 4 Argon model, users can access Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5. Other closed and open models from different companies are expected to be added over time.

Claude Runs Under the Gemini Name, Too

One striking aspect of the announcement is that Claude can be selected in a service bearing the Gemini name. Gemini Agent is designed not to be tied to any particular model and says it will run tasks using the model best suited to each one.

To clarify the distinction, AI models are the brains responsible for generating text and reasoning. Agents are systems that use those brains to carry out tasks. Gemini Agent is a tool that brings together multiple such systems, so it is easier to understand its role by separating the foundation that runs the tasks from the models used within it.

Until now, choosing a service often also meant choosing which model to use. With Gemini Agent, users will have the option to choose a model after selecting the service.

Three Models Available Now, With More to Come

The three models currently available are Gemini 4 Argon, Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5. Google’s Shubham Sabu revealed the lineup on X alongside a screen for selecting models, and said other closed and open models are expected to be added in the future.

Making non-Google models available on Google’s cloud shifts the debate away from which models are superior and toward how to use them—choosing the right model for each task.

How Will This Change the Way Businesses Use AI?

If multiple models can be accessed from one place, it becomes easier to match them to different kinds of work—for example, using a fast model to draft documents and a more capable model for complex reasoning. The reduced need to build workflows around a single model is a significant change for companies considering adoption.

However, being able to choose a model is not the same as being free to switch services. The announcement did not specify the conditions for connecting to or migrating to other services. Companies considering adoption will find it easier to assess the tool if they look beyond the available models and map out how they would use them for their own operations.

How It Relates to Existing Gemini Apps and Pricing

Google has not yet clarified how Gemini Agent relates to the existing Gemini app or Gemini Enterprise. Nor did the announcement say that Claude on the cloud can now be used directly through the Gemini app.

It is also unclear which plans will include access, whether the consumer-facing Gemini AI plans, Google Workspace for businesses or Gemini Enterprise. Google Cloud Japan has been contacted for details on pricing and availability in Japan; a follow-up is expected once it responds.
